Spinal and Postural Screenings

Spinal and postural screenings can disclose beneficial information that will allow us to help you reach your optimal health. We also offer screenings at health fairs and community events, along with those offered at our office.

Physiotherapy
  • Interferential Muscle Stimulation - is a therapy using low volt electric stimulation to relax muscle spasms. Muscle stimulation can be used to treat a variety of conditions including sprains and strains, sore or painful muscles, swelling, and decreased range of motion.

  • Graston Technique - is an instrument-assisted soft tissue technique that is used to break down scar tissue which causes pain and restricted mobility. Graston has been effective in the treatment of conditions such as neck pain, upper back sprain/strain, headaches, tennis/golfers elbow, lower back sprain/strain, rotator cuff tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendinitis.

  • Cryotherapy - is a treatment used to decrease swelling. It is often used to ease discomfort and muscle spasms.

  • Heat Therapy -causes blood vessels, in the treated areas, to dilate or open wider. As a result, the increased blood flow promotes healing. Sore, chronic muscle spasms can relax and become more flexible due to heat. Stiff and achy joints that result from arthritis, may become more limber as well.

  • Myofascial Release - is a therapy that is similar to massage therapy but uses less oil and different strokes than other massage techniques. It is effective in the treatment of muscle spasms and sprain/strain injuries like whiplash.

  • Mechanical Traction - is a therapy used to create more space between the joints of the spine. This results in a healthier disc by increasing hydration and taking stress off the joints of the spine. It is effective for the treatment of mid-back pain and low-back pain.

  • Spinal Decompression Therapy - is a treatment that relieves pain from disc injuries by stretching the spine and allowing an increase in blood flow to the disc. This traction therapy has been successful in relieving pain associated with disc degeneration, and herniated or bulging discs. Low back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, numbness, and other forms of neuropathy have all been successfully treated with spinal decompression.

  • K-Laser Therapy - is a drug and surgery-free solution to pain relief. The painless application of laser energy increases circulation, reduces swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, pain and enhances tissue repair. The K-Laser is leading the way in pain management and you may feel improvement in your condition after the first treatment. Beneficial in the treatment of tendinopathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, sports injuries, tennis elbow, shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain, auto and work-related injuries.

  • Dry Needling - is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain and stiffness. This technique is known to help with low back pain/tension, neck pain, tennis elbow, migraines, spinal dysfunction, sciatica, and more.

  • SoftWave Therapy - helps to increase blood supply, modulates inflammation, accelerates wound healing, reduces acute and chronic pain, and also repairs, remodels, and regenerates tissue. This non-invasive treatment is an alternative option to an injection, surgery, or medicine.

Corrective and Therapeutic Exercises

Address the causes of many recurring pains. The focus is on re-establishing the healthy, natural curves of the spine, improving range of motion, improving balance, decreasing muscle spasms, and restoring the function of the nervous system with rehabilitation. Each patient will receive specialized exercises designed to aid in the strengthening and corrective process of their specific treatment plan.

Lifestyle Advice

At Chiropractic Physicians of the Carolinas, we encourage our patients to engage in the activities and exercise they enjoy most. However, we do advise and provide helpful information on certain activities they should avoid, or do differently, to prevent aggravating their conditions.  Many of our patients experience pain because of the things they do every day.  Whether for work or play, we can teach you how to get back to daily activities without making your condition worse.

Nutritional Counseling

We understand that what we put in our bodies for fuel is crucial to our overall health and aids in our body’s healing process. We provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to enhance our patient’s return to optimal health. The doctors may provide a structured nutritional program based on your individual needs in cooperation with your treatment plan.

Impulse Adjuster

Impulse adjusting is a relatively new technique developed to provide a specific low force adjustment to a particular joint. The technique consists of the use of an instrument that provides a more gentle chiropractic adjustment that is safe and effective for patients of all ages. No popping or cracking can be heard with these adjustments.

Prenatal and Postnatal Chiropractic Care

During pregnancy, there are many physiological changes that occur to your body. Preexisting imbalances in your spine and pelvis become stressed during pregnancy, often causing pain and discomfort. Dr. Ellison is trained in the needs of women who are pregnant and use techniques to avoid any unneeded pressure on the abdomen. Chiropractic adjustments allow your body to adapt to the structural changes that come along with your growing baby. Chiropractic care can relieve back pain, sciatic pain, and other discomforts during pregnancy by reducing stress on the spine and nerves. Chiropractic care also provides comfort for your developing baby by establishing pelvic balance. When the pelvis is misaligned, it can reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby resulting in intrauterine constraint. A misaligned pelvis can make it difficult for the baby to get into the best position available for delivery resulting in breech presentations, longer labor times, and potentially C-sections. The nervous system controls all body systems including the reproductive system. Keeping the body in the proper spinal alignment causes the body to work more efficiently. Specialized chiropractic techniques such as the Webster Technique have an 80% success rate in turning babies from the breech position into the proper vertex position for natural and safe deliveries. Chiropractic care restores balance to your pelvis, leading to an easier and safer delivery for you and your baby. Dr. Ellison may also discuss nutritional and exercise advice to help women enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Chiropractic care is also very beneficial following childbirth. In the eight weeks following labor and delivery, the ligaments that loosened during pregnancy begin to tighten up again. It is important to stabilize and balance the body in the proper alignment before those ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy state. This will prevent muscle tension, back pain, headaches, rib pain, and shoulder pain that would have resulted otherwise.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care

Parents are now seeking chiropractic care for their children. Chiropractic care for children is safe and effective. Many spinal conditions seen in adults began as early as birth.  As the infant grows, learns to hold up its head, sits, crawls, and walks they can change their spinal alignment greatly. One of the most common reasons parents seek care for their child is for some type of injury. Another common reason parents seek chiropractic care is the resolution of a particular symptom or condition such as colic, ear infections, asthma, allergies, and headaches. Most parents report an improvement in their child’s sleep, behavior, and immune system after chiropractic care.

Dry Needling

Chiropractic Physicians of the Carolinas now offers dry needling, which is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain and stiffness. This technique is known to help with low back pain/tension, neck pain, tennis elbow, migraines, spinal dysfunction, sciatica, and more.

SoftWave Therapy

SoftWave Therapy helps to increase blood supply, modulates inflammation, accelerates wound healing, reduces acute and chronic pain, and also repairs, remodels, and regenerates tissue. This non-invasive treatment is an alternative option to an injection, surgery, or medicine.
